Design One

Our Story

When Design One started in 1999 it consisted of Trey Bohannan dragging a broke down push mower around Pine Bluff mowing yards. A lawn mower, a weedeater that started on most attempts and a leaf blower that started on some. A strong determination and a knack for getting things done began a snowball effect and before long Design One booked its first commercial mowing contract. Wendy’s! (Still a client today). Trey soon had to upgrade equipment and the first zero-turn mower was bought. In those days he would catch people pulling in the parking lot just to see it in action.

It was also time to add on an employee. Within a few months a 2nd guy was hired and things were rolling. After adding more commercial accounts and earning the trust of a major contractor on 5 landscaping jobs things really took off. Design One now had a contractors license and a new taste for commercial work.

A shop was bought and a 2nd mowing crew was started. Landscape and irrigation became a regular thing and the company grew quickly.

In February of 2020 Design One bought Roy D. Smith Construction. We soon moved to our new 80+ acre campus of shops and land. With this purchase we took over a lot of equipment, new shops, 4 dogs, a cat, 1 stuffed bear and Roy himself. This growth has allowed us to become one of the largest trucking companies in the area as we move aggregates and material for our own jobs and for companies and individuals daily. We also operate the only full-time dirt pit in the County.

We now have fleets of trucks of all shapes and sizes. Bulldozers, Trackhoes, Rollers, Water Trucks, Tractors and about everything else you can imagine. Our full time office staff handles everything from billing to GPS modeling data for excavation projects. A lot has changed at Design One but in our heart of hearts we are still the small family business that started off with a push mower and a prayer.
